Il Corriere dello Sport reports Luciano Spalletti has met Gianluigi Buffon in Tuscany to discuss the former goalkeeper’s role with the Azzurri.

Buffon retired at the beginning of August and was immediately named Italy’s Delegation Chief.

His involvement in the Azzurri squad will not change despite Spalletti replacing Roberto Mancini.

According to Tuesday’s printed edition of Corriere dello Sport (page 19), the Tuscan tactician met Buffon in Versilia, Tuscany, over the last few days to discuss his involvement in the project.

The report claims Buffon could even be promoted as Italy’s team manager replacing Gabriele Oriali, given that the contract of the Inter legend is set to expire.

Meantime, Spalletti is reportedly not considering taking a role as coordinator of Italy’s youth teams, a position accepted by Mancini a few days before his resignation.

Spalletti only wants to focus on the first team, at least in the opening stages of his Azzurri career, knowing that he’ll need six points in the opening two EURO 2024 qualifying matches against North Macedonia and Ukraine in September.

  1. In 90 and early 2000s Italian team have a numerous strikers but they don’t give them opportunities and players like Hubner and Lucarelli never considered and even great like Baggio who has a 1 goal after every 2 matches for Italy and in Serie A treated horribly by Italian coaches. Now Karma has haunted Italian Football as they importing strikers from other nations. I hop they give equal oppertunities to young Italians players.
