Luciano Spalletti gave a slightly terse response when asked if he will meet Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis to discuss his future. ‘I thank them for warning me that they exercised the contract option.’
There have continued to be reports that Spalletti is not sure about continuing at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona after winning their first Serie A title in 33 years.
In response, President De Laurentiis only stated that there is an option to extend his contract and the club has exercised it.
That does not appear to be enough, as the coach wants to sit down and talk about their plans before making a decision and it is rumoured he would appreciate the freedom to make his decision.
“There is no problem. They had this option, they exercised it, I thank them for warning me that they exercised it, and then there will be time, as the season has not ended yet,” Spalletti told DAZN with a shrug.
“I just replied like that because the journalists asked me things that were not down to them.”
It is not just Spalletti whose future seems to be in doubt, as there are also reports director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli could be poached by Juventus after eight years in Naples.
