Luciano Spalletti is the favourite to replace Pippo Inzaghi if Milan lose to Lazio in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday.

The Rossoneri are in dire straits after one point from the first four Serie A games of 2015, including last night’s 3-1 defeat to Lazio.

The two teams meet again at San Siro on Tuesday in the Coppa Italia quarter-final and failure in that fixture could well be the final straw for SuperPippo.

The Coach is hanging by a thread and Italian media have named Spalletti as the most likely candidate to take over.

Milan had already been interested in ex-Roma boss Spalletti, but at the time he was still tied to Zenit St Petersburg.

Assistant manager Mauro Tassotti is a more low-cost alternative, as he has been waiting for his big chance for years after sitting beside the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Leonardo, Max Allegri and Clarence Seedorf.

Arrigo Sacchi again made clear he has no intention of taking on a mentor role, as he quit everything except his television pundit work due to stress.

“I do not have the energy to fire up other people,” Sacchi told Mediaset Premium.

“If you are empty, then you cannot fill others. I am convinced Inzaghi must overcome this moment, which happens to everyone.

“In my view Milan have to work very hard indeed on how they play without the ball, as they are badly positioned on the pitch and really don’t know what to do. That is the most worrying aspect.”
