Inter Coach Luciano Spalletti says he would have “gladly greeted” Francesco Totti, despite the Roma legend’s criticism of him.

Er Pupone released an autobiography earlier this year, in which he criticised the former Giallorossi boss for sending him away from Trigoria and, in his view, forcing him into retirement.

Last night the Nerazzurri were at the Stadio Olimpico for a 2-2 draw, and Spalletti was given a hostile reception by the crowd, while Totti left the media centre after being told the Tuscan was coming.

“The reception was the least I could expect,” Spalletti shrugged, speaking to DAZN.

“I have lots of friends here though and a lot of people I really like. I lived in Rome for seven years, I was in touch with the beauty of the city and I had a great time. So it’s a big part of my life.

“Did I really like Totti? Even more than the others. There were many moments where he was decisive for the team.

“Consequently I loved his extent of attachment to the team.

“We didn’t see each other, if we had I’d have gladly greeted him.”
