Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti is happy to slow the pace in the mid-season World Cup break, suggesting it ‘fits well’ for him.

The Partenopei had an explosive start to the season and currently sit top of the Serie A table after 15 games, eight points clear of second place Milan. Spalletti and his Napoli squad also shined in the Champions League and they’ll be keen to impress in their Round of 16 clash with Eintracht Frankfurt in February.

Speaking to Rtv38, Spalletti first discussed if he’s watching the World Cup or thinking about the restart of Serie A.

“Neither, I’m with my family and I enjoy that because not being together in Naples, I missed them. Now there’s this period that can help everyone to put things right and to go and find new solutions. Situations that can allow the team to be even stronger.”

He commented on the impact of the mid-season break and how that suits his Napoli side.

“I’m convinced that this break will be used well because we will be able to work in depth, as we did in training camp. I wish there was always a pause in the middle of the season to put things right.

“I will certainly go and work on other concepts and we will certainly find stronger teams at the restart because all the other good coaches will do as I do.

“For me it fits well because we had a good period but to maintain it until infinity was impossible. It’s possible to have a good period, a break and another good period.”

Five Napoli players are currently competing at the World Cup in Qatar, including André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Piotr Zielinski and Kim Min-Jae.

The Partenopei’s first game of 2023 is against Inter on January 4, a key game in their title challenge this season.
