Zenit St Petersburg manager Luciano Spalletti is thoroughly impressed with Italy. “Everything works with Cesare Prandelli.”

The Azzurri have qualified for Euro 2012 with two games to spare, an achievement never bettered by this country. Tonight they face Serbia in Belgrade.

“Everything works with Prandelli and he deserves praise,” ex-Roma Coach Spalletti told Sky Sport Italia.

“He has an open mentality and is a great Coach. He called Giampaolo Pazzini and made him play regularly despite the fact he chose Alberto Gilardino when they were together at Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”12″>Fiorentina.

“In football there are such delicate boundaries and balances that at times this change cannot happen. He showed great intelligence.”

Prandelli also shepherded Antonio Cassano back to a steady path, although the Milan striker did have to apologise for insulting a journalist this week.

“Antonio is off the scale, as he has this explosive energy both on and off the field. If he didn't live like that, then he wouldn't be so creative on the pitch,” continued Spalletti.

“However, he is an idol for children and should learn how to control himself better. Prandelli was perfectly right in this too, as when a Coach has to evaluate a player, the professional aspect will always be more important than the personal one.”
