Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti praises Edin Dzeko, and believes he has a “desire for revenge” after last season.

The Bosnian striker arrived amid much fanfare from Manchester City last summer, but only managed eight Serie A goals.

However, after continuing his fine pre-season form with a double in a bounce game against Fondi, the Coach singled out his forward for praise.

“For him, it’s important to see what he went through,” Spalletti explained after the match.

“His qualities are undeniable, in terms of his technique and his physicality and also his choices. He has to find the right stubborness, and his desire for revenge from after season is important.

“He’s started off on the right foot, and the desire for redemption that he’s shown is good. He always tried to show what he could do, even when I made different choices.

“That’s why he must keep working well, he’s doing his job well.”

Kevin Strootman has returned to the squad after missing most of the last two seasons with injury, and Spalletti also saw positive signs from the Dutchman.

“Kevin is on the right track. Our fear that he might have experienced some decline hasn’t come to pass. Now we wait for the real games so he can rediscover all his qualities.

“I can tell the team played better, because I yelled less!”
