Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti marks what would’ve been Diego Armando Maradona’s 62nd birthday by citing philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer.

The tactician spoke to DAZN ahead of this afternoon’s Serie A match against Sassuolo, which could be their club record 13th consecutive victory in all competitions.

There was a special event before kick-off in memory of Maradona, as tomorrow would’ve been the Argentina and Napoli legend’s 62nd birthday.

“To describe Maradona, I need to cite Schopenhauer,” said Spalletti.

“While talent achieves what others cannot achieve, genius achieves what others cannot imagine. That was the difference between Maradona and all other players, the difference between talent and genius.”

There is a statue to Maradona in the stadium that was named after him just hours after his death in November 2020, and the squad is on track to win its first Serie A title since his era.

“The atmosphere in this stadium is something that hits you with such power that you cannot absorb it, because it hits you inside and creates a strong reaction from the players, the fans and the whole city of Naples.”
