Luciano Spalletti admits it was ‘not an easy game’ for Napoli and congratulates Cremonese on their performance, but they ‘never lost our heads’ in the eventual 4-1 victory.

The Partenopei are now two points clear at the top of the Serie A table, as Atalanta were held 2-2 by Udinese earlier this afternoon.

Although the final result at the Stadio Zini was 4-1, the game was not quite so simple, as Cremonese weren’t truly broken until stoppages by Chucky Lozano and Mathias Olivera goals.

Cyriel Dessers had cancelled out the Matteo Politano penalty, but Giovanni Simeone came off the bench to nod in a Mario Rui cross.

“This was not an easy game for us, as they got the equaliser and it was difficult from there, because it became a battle on a level that is not suited to our characteristics,” Spalletti told DAZN.

“We were unable to get the second ball often enough and it became a match we were not accustomed to. However, the team never lots their heads, so in the end our approach was rewarded.

“Simeone scored a great goal, but it was difficult today. Cremonese do not deserve their current position in the table, so they ought to be congratulated on their performance today.”

It is the first time in Napoli’s history that they have won eight games in a row in all competition.

“I get the feeling this team never lets the intensity levels drop, which is why they wear the Napoli jersey. The intention is always the same, go all the way and give your all. It becomes easier for a coach when dealing with lads like these.”

There was also bad news, as Amir Rrahmani limped off in pain after over-stretching with what would appear to be an adductor strain, as he was clutching the inside of his thigh.

“Rrahmani needs to be evaluated.”
