La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Luciano Spalletti could call up Jorginho for games against North Macedonia and Ukraine in November but Tommaso Baldanzi and Argentine-born winger Matias Soulé are also on the coach’s radars.
The Azzurri will play two key Euro 2024 qualifying fixtures in November against North Macedonia and Ukraine. They’ll need four points or just a win away against the Ukrainians to earn a spot at the European Championship next year.
According to Saturday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (page 24), Spalletti is considering Jorginho’s return as the Arsenal midfielder is now getting regular playing time under Mikel Arteta, having started the last two Premier League matches.
The ex-Napoli and Hellas Verona midfielder was not called up in September and October but according to Gazzetta, his experience and ability to play under pressure, typical of the Premier League, make him a credible candidate for the Regista role for the next two games.
Spalletti is also reportedly considering more potential debutants for the Azzurri after Destiny Udogie. Empoli‘s Tommaso Baldanzi, who has been playing for Italy U21, remains an option and the same is true of Soulé, on loan at Frosinone from Juventus.
The 20-year-old was born in Argentina in 2003 but has an Italian passport, so he is eligible to play for the Azzurri. He has scored three goals in seven Serie A appearances so far this season.
According to the report, Torino centre-back Alessandro Buongiorno, his teammate Samuele Ricci, a central midfielder, and Monza’s Andrea Colpani, an attacking midfielder, are also being monitored by Spalletti.
Buongiorno and Ricci have made one and two Italy appearances, respectively, while Colpani, scorer of four goals in nine Serie A games in 2023-24, has never played for the Azzurri at a senior level.
