Spalletti connects Italy players through app

Italy coach Luciano Spalletti is trying to find a new way of keeping players connected throughout the season by joining them together on a smartphone app.

The tactician took over from Roberto Mancini in September and is well aware that there won’t be another break for international duty for quite some time after these EURO 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, he has asked the players in the squad to sign up to an app called Hudl so they can study videos of tactical situations.

It will help them keep up to date rather than having to cram all the information into a few video sessions when they are all together at the Coverciano training ground.

There is also a new group of monitors in the bedrooms of the athletes at Coverciano showing the same videos.

The app was developed to help coaches and athletes review game footage and analyse team performance, initially in American Football, but spreading to football, basketball and more.

Technology is increasingly used in the sport, including wearable technology and drones used in training to get real-time video of the team movements from above.
