Spain have called up 17 extra players ahead of Euro 2020, including Brahim Diaz and Gonzalo Villar, after two COVID cases.

There is growing panic in the side just days before the tournament kicks off, as Sergio Busquets and Diego Llorente tested positive for Coronavirus.

Amid concerns the virus could continue to spread through the group, Spain used the Under-21 side for last night’s friendly win over Lithuania.

Now it’s announced 11 of those players will remain with the senior Spain squad and train with them for the next few days.

They are Alvaro Fernandez (Huesca), Oscar Mingueza (Barcellona), Marc Cucurella (Getafe), Bryan Gil (Siviglia), Juan Miranda (Betis), Gonzalo Villar (Roma), Alex Pozo (Eibar), Brahim Diaz (Milan), Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad), Yeremy Pino (Villareal) and Javi Puado (Espanyol).

Before that, Luis Enrique had already called up another six emergency players, as the coach can modify the final group of 26 up until the debut game.

Spain open their tournament against Sweden – who also had Dejan Kulusevski and Mattias Svanberg test positive – on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Ministry for Health in Spain has finally decided to give the squad emergency vaccinations, having previously been against the idea of vaccinating the players.
