The Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora has confirmed the reopening of sporting events to the public in Italy, with a maximum of 1000 spectators.

Spadafora spoke about the decision from the Technical and Scientific Committee (CTS) to reopen doors for outdoor sporting events.

“In the next few hours this decision will be made official, but I want to thank Minister Speranza for the collaboration and the CTS,” Spadafora said, according to SportItalia journalist Alfredo Pedulla.

“The priority was to not differentiate between cultural and sporting events. Finally, starting from the semi-finals of the Tennis Masters 1000 in Rome, 1000 spectators will be able to attend.

“This opens outdoor sporting events to the public, scrupulously respecting the rules such as social distancing, use of masks, seat reservations.

“A first step, finally, towards the return to normality.”
