Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora warns ‘there will be no room for violent ultras’ when Serie A and B stadiums reopen after clashes in Rome.

A protest march against the lockdown and Government was organised in Rome yesterday, including a congregation of various ultras groups and far-right political parties.

It descended into chaos when a member of the Roma ultras started giving an interview to television cameras assuring it was a ‘peaceful protest,’ which prompted a brawl with another organiser, then objects were thrown at police and media.

“I firmly and without reservation condemn the clashes at the Circo Massimo, fuelled by Forza Nuova and some extremist fringes of ultras groups,” declared Minister for Sport Spadafora on Facebook.

“Devastating the city, attacking journalists and police, launching insults and anti-Semitic threats is as far away from the values of sport and passion as you can get.

“However, condemnation is not enough. The neo-Fascist groups in our country must be dissolved. I will add that violent fans will have no room once the stadiums reopen, we hope soon, as we are already studying more severe sanctions and advanced instruments of identification.

“We had further confirmation yesterday that people who propagate hate and violence are so blind and unintelligent that they even end up fighting amongst themselves.”

There was another incident in Milan on Friday night, as a 21-year-old was arrested for stabbing a 24-year-old man during a brawl.

The arrested man was later identified as the son of one of the Inter ultras leaders Franco Caravita.
