Southampton are said to have been in negotiations with Lazio for Dutch defender Wesley Hoedt with a £12m offer on the way.
He’d effectively replace fellow countryman Virgil van Dijk, who is on the verge of a move to Liverpool.
According to the Daily Mail, the Saints have held talks with Lazio over 23-year-old Hoedt.
The price-tag is believed to be in the region of £12m (€15m).
Any sale would be a profit, as he arrived for free when his AZ Alkmaar contract expired in July 2015.
