New Fiorentina Coach Paulo Sousa says he wants to ‘honour the history of this club’, as he’s officially presented.

The Portuguese tactician was confirmed as the Viola’s new boss yesterday, and will replace Vincenzo Montella on the Franchi bench.

“I want to say thanks to everyone who wanted me here,” Sousa told the assembled media.

“I want to honour the history of this club, together we can achieve important goals. I’ll do my best, I’ll bring hard work and honesty.

“We want to entertain, have fun and win. I progressed very well as a player in this country, and I’m sure I can do the same as a Coach.

“I’ll be competing with top-level Coaches, I’m aware that this is a beautiful challenge. We want to involve our fans and win a lot of games.

“Football is primarily about the results, but I want to live through every emotion and thrill with the Fiorentina fans.”

Sousa’s predecessor left in acrimonious circumstances, but the former Juventus midfielder says he’ll be taking inspiration from Montella’s side.

“I’m a big fan of his, and I’m honoured to take over at Fiorentina and follow the path they were on with him at the helm.

“His style of football was vibrant and fun, I really liked it and we’ll try to repeat that.”
