The Viola had started the season well, but have since stuttered with defeats to Torino and Basel.
“None of the players felt good after the Basel game, as nobody likes to lose. We are evaluating their physical condition to see who can play tomorrow,” noted the Coach in his Press conference.
“Obviously the mood is not positive, but there is a new game and we are concentrated on that. I am absolutely convinced that the result is not the only important thing. Results help boost confidence, but we need more time.
“The best way to defend is to keep the ball and create problems for your opponents. Perfection does not exist in football and what we do is never sufficient. There’s always room for improvement.”
Fiorentina had taken the lead against Torino and Basel, but ended up on the losing side.
“The early goal affected us and we went too deep. We must continue attacking and going for more. We struggled to move the ball around quickly and pressure them into conceding counters.”
Giuseppe Rossi was rested in the Europa League, so will he start against Carpi?
“Rossi did good work defensively against Genoa. He’s an intelligent player and can be used in many ways, but it’s important that he’s given time in this period of rehabilitation.
“We could see Khouma Babacar and Nikola Kalinic together from the start, or during the game.”
Carpi got their first ever Serie A point last week, holding Palermo to a 2-2 draw, and one of their most impressive figures is Fiorentina-owned Ryder Matos.
“We are following his progress, but at the moment are more concentrated on our own problems,” noted Sousa.
“We have to find balance, understand when it’s the right moment to go deep or push forward. It’s not easy to find time for training when the schedule is so packed.”
