Paulo Sousa warned Fiorentina “are a better team than this” after a 2-1 defeat to his old club Basel.
The Viola had taken the lead after just four minutes in this Europa League tie, but Gonzalo Rodriguez saw red, followed by Birkir Bjarnason and Mohamed Elneny strikes.
“I think we are a better team than this and we can do much better, including when down to 10 men, and we must try to improve our possession,” Sousa told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am convinced because we have players of a very high quality. We are asking for something a little different from them and have been working very hard on constructing the moves, as we absolutely need to improve on that.
“It’s all about giving consistency to the work you do in training into a match situation. We absolutely believe that we can progress and do the things we practice in a game.”
