Fiorentina Coach Paulo Sousa calls on fans to back his team – “there’s an air of defeat in the city”.

The Viola looked to be Scudetto contenders earlier in the season, but a run of just one win in their last four games has seen them slip off the pace.

“We can’t hide from this feeling of disappointment,” Sousa admitted in his Press conference ahead of the Carpi game.

“There’s an air of defeat in the city and that can cause a problem. I urge the people who love this shirt to keep pushing, because the fans are our best signing.

“I hope we can overcome this feeling of defeat by having the fans behind us."

“I’d be worried if we weren’t creating chances, because then we couldn’t score. That only happened against Milan, we created chances against Genoa.

There has been criticism from the fans for the club’s activities in the transfer market, and Sousa didn’t exactly endorse the transfer campaign.

“I’m not afraid to talk about it, but only ambition and courage will allow you to win and be happy. I always start from the assumption that I’m the happiest person in the world, doing the job I love.

“That drives me to constantly improve myself. I don’t feel uncomfortable as a Coach, but I’m a Coach who wants to continue to grow and has a winning mentality.

“Then everyone is responsible for their own decisions, as I am for mine.

“I don’t ever hold back, I want to be clear and honest with everyone when I make my assessments. To me, confrontations must be constructive to remain at the highest level.

“I’m focused on my work, talking about and explaining the transfer campaign is down to the club.

“We made two signings yesterday [Panagiotis Kone and Yohan Benalouane] who can help us out, but I need to know them better, I started studying them today.”
