Paulo Sousa confirms more changes in his second game on the Salernitana bench, as he is considering ‘a new role’ for Antonio Candreva against Monza.

It kicks off on Sunday at 14.00 GMT at the Stadio Arechi.

The Portuguese tactician took over from sacked Davide Nicola and made his debut in a 2-0 home defeat to Lazio.

Now they welcome a Monza side that in their first ever Serie A season are comfortably mid-table under coach Raffaele Palladino.

“We are up against a team that is feeling very confident and Palladino deserves all the praise he is currently receiving for his work,” said Sousa in a press conference.

There had already been reports last week that Candreva could be moved from his usual wide role and it seems that is being explored.

“Candreva as a trequartista behind the strikers is an option, because I want him to be more central and his tactical intelligence allows him to do that.”

Salernitana also receive boosts from the treatment room, as Pasquale Mazzocchi returns after almost three months out with a knee injury, while Giulio Maggiore and top scorer Boulaye Dia are available again too.

“I am thinking of starting Mazzocchi tomorrow. Along with Maggiore, he can give us a big hand.”

Before the surgery, Mazzocchi had contributed two goals and two assists in 15 Serie A appearances for Salernitana this season.

Sousa confirmed that he will not yet make a definitive choice between goalkeepers Luigi Sepe and Guillermo Ochoa.
