Matias Soule noted how he decided to join Juventus ‘after 10 minutes’ and explained why he chose to represent Argentina instead of Italy.
The 20-year-old forward, who joined the Bianconeri from Velez in January 2020, has been on fire with Frosinone since joining on loan this season, scoring five goals and providing one assist across his first 11 games.
Soule is widely expected to return to Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus squad next summer, having already proven himself a young talent brimming with potential. He had the choice to represent both Argentina and Italy at international level, and ultimately chose the former.
Speaking to SportWeek via TMW, Soule was first asked about his likely return to Juventus next summer.
“I’m only thinking about Frosinone. I know it seems boring, but I’m being honest! I feel great in Frosinone, the city is fantastic, quiet, ideal for me and my family.
“The fans on the other hand are wild, luckily! Yes, they make you feel at home and away, they make me remember the Argentine stadiums.”
He was also asked about the recent Serie A betting scandal.
“Luckily I’ve never had this habit and I certainly won’t.”
The Argentine talent remembered Juventus’ first call to him back in 2020.
“As if it had happened this morning, it was incredible. I was at a barbecue with my father and my agent and the European teams who wanted me were revealed to me.
“They told me: ‘Choose calmly, take all the time you need’. After 10 minutes I replied: ‘I choose Juve’.”
Soule explained why he decided to join the Bianconeri.
“It was the most beautiful and demanding challenge, even though they weren’t the club who offered me the most money.
“I knew it wouldn’t be easy to get to the first team in such a big club, but I’m competitive and ambitious and I always aim for the maximum.”
He gave his thoughts on the title race this season.
“It’s early, but I imagine it will be a fight between Inter and Juventus. They are the strongest.”
The 20-year-old reflected on his last few years in Turin.
“I learned a lot. The last year in particular, when I only got into the first team, despite not playing much, I discovered fundamental things that will serve me forever. I had champions as teammates, every training session was a lesson of football.”
He spoke about his relationship with former teammate Angel Di Maria.
“Fideo is a great teacher. We are very good friends, he always messages me. And before I started scoring, he sent me messages like: ‘When will you wake up and start scoring goals?’. Well, it worked… We spoke, also to discuss the choice to aim to play with Argentina.”
He explained why he decided to represent Argentina instead of Italy.
“I am Argentine, my heart is Argentine and playing with my national team is a dream. Spalletti had called me, then he came to Frosinone, and I simply told him that I feel Argentine and that I want to wait for Argentina.
“It’s not a given that they’ll call me, but it’s another of those difficult challenges that motivates me.”
Finally, Soule discussed his dream.
“To win a World Cup. And the Champions League. I told you, I’m aiming for the maximum.”
