The Fiorentina loanee scored the equaliser at 1-1 but could’t help prevent a 3-2 defeat to Atalanta and an exit from the Coppa Italia on Thursday.

But despite the poor start to 2020-21, the 21-year-old said he and his teammates are fully behind coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

“We wanted to advance by beating a very strong opponent, it’s too bad because the reaction was the right one,” Sottil told the club’s website.

“We were good at suffering and creating opportunities to score goals.

“Atalanta are a top team and they put a lot of pressure on you. I’m happy for my goal, but it’s clear that it’s a partial joy and very weakened by the lack of the positive result for the team.

He said the Rossoblu are ‘working hard’ to turn things around, with Cagliari two points above relegation and on a winless streak of 10 games, including five consecutive defeats across all competitions.

“This team have important values on a technical and moral level,” he said. “We are working hard to get out of the complicated situation.

“We must follow the coach because together we can react and start with Monday’s match against Milan.

“I’m convinced that we can improve and return to obtaining those results that have been missing.”
