The goalkeeper, who kept 91 clean sheets in Serie A during spells at Torino, Palermo and Chievo, spoke about the difficult period in Italy due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
“We have been locked in the house for two weeks,” he told Tuttomercatoweb. “I only went out a few times for shopping.
“In these moments, many things are taken for granted in the hectic routine of life. I have re-established contact with the school after so many years thanks to my daughters. And then many other small things that you can’t do in everyday life.
“I still see too many people around, even here in Turin.
“People perhaps didn’t understand the seriousness of the situation. They don’t ask of anything from us, just to stay indoors,” he added. “I know it’s challenging, but you have to show respect to those who are losing so many loved ones these days.
“My wife is from a town near Bergamo and we are experiencing everything in a bad way. Out of respect for the dead and those in need now, but especially for the doctors and nurses on the front lines, who are doing extraordinary things, you have to stay at home.
He has warned the people who are still out “exercising” that they are getting fit for a summer they won’t be able to enjoy unless they stay at home.
“We all want it to end soon. There’s only one speech: you have to stay at home.”
“I have been exercising at home for two weeks, but then I see pictures of everyone cycling and running, to get fit for the summer. If this continues, there will not be a summer to enjoy. You have to stay in your homes.”
