The former Chievo Verona hero Stefano Sorrentino has decided to retire from football at the age of 40.
The goalkeeper has defended the Chievo goal for years, but after the club went down to Serie B, the club decided to part ways with the player against his will.
He has been searching for the right offer ever since, but now he has decided to let go.
“I decided to retire,” he said to Sky Sport Italia. “It’s a decision I made during the last few days after reflecting for a while.

“I decided to retire,” he said to Sky Sport Italia. “It’s a decision I made during the last few days after reflecting for a while.
“I consider myself lucky for the career I have had. I had the honour of playing in Serie A until the age of 40, that’s enough. I would like to leave the game in a good way.
“I have returned to Torino with my daughters and to see them so calm, helps me take a step back.”
Sorrentino started his career in the academy of Lazio and moved to Juventus in 1997. He left one year later to play for Torino and has since played for clubs like Juve Stabia, Palermo and Chievo.
The shot stopper has also had his experiences abroad, with Recreativo Huelva in Spain and AEK Athens in Greece.
The 40-year-old leaves football after 363 games in Serie A.
