Massimo Ferrero warns Napoli that Roberto Soriano is still ‘a Sampdoria player’.

The Italian international’s move to the Partenopei collapsed last night, but President Aurelio De Laurentiis said the move would take place in January.

However, the Blucerchiati patron has denied those claims, insisting he never wanted to sell any of the club’s stars.

“Deep down I never thought of selling my gems,” Ferrero wrote on the club’s official website.

“Myself and my three musketeers [the club directors] worked for 20 hours a day on the transfer market, which seemed like a war between the poor and the rich, just to improve the competitiveness of Sampdoria.

“I want to tell Aurelio De Laurentiis to think about his players, and I’ll think about mine, because let’s be clear, Soriano is a Sampdoria player, not a Napoli player on loan to Sampdoria.

“To all those who criticised me, who doubted, and who flooded me with messages, I say that I gave my heart, my wallet and my love, and they gave only bad words.

“Now I’m waiting for them to return to the stadium, to cheer with me for Sampdoria.

“Ladies and gentlemen, for a better football, one which I’ve been fighting for since I became President, it’s essential for everyone to fulfil their role, so we can get to a sport built on actions not words.

“My job is to provide good football, and yours is to cheer, sustain and support our Sampdoria, with civility, passion and love both on and off the pitch.”
