Bologna midfielder Roberto Soriano described ‘an emotional moment’ after earning his first Italy cap since November 2015.

The 29-year-old was in the starting XI for the 4-0 friendly victory against Estonia on Wednesday evening.

“It was a unique sensation. It’s been five years since I wore the Italy jersey, so it was an emotional moment,” he told RAI Sport.

“It was a good group, we’re Italian, so know how to welcome people as if they’re at home. There were quite a few players working together for the first time tonight, but we needed the right attitude, as it was a game where we had everything to lose.

“I think we can do even better, as we weren’t sharp enough in the final pass, but that’s something that can improve with more playing time together.”

Soriano was asked if he could try to break into the Euro 2020 squad for next summer, as he’s contributed four goals and three assists in seven Serie A games so far this season.

“I will try to give my all for Bologna, then if I did enough to earn my place at the Euros, I’ll be happy. I know it’s all down to what you do at club level, things are going quite well, but Bologna deserve more points considering all we create and the way we play.”
