Wesley Sneijder reflected on Inter’s Champions League win under Jose Mourinho, recalling an interesting anecdote about the Portugese coach.

Mourinho spent two years in charge of the Nerazzurri from 2008 to 2010, guiding them to two Scudetti, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League, famously winning the Treble in the 2009-10 campaign.

After overseeing 108 games for Inter, where he averaged 2.12 points per match, the Portuguese coach left for Real Madrid. It took 11 years for Mourinho to return to Serie A, joining Roma in July 2021.

Speaking to RTL 7, Sneijder remembered an interesting moment from Mourinho’s final season with Inter.

“The relationship Mourinho had with Materazzi was special and a few weeks before the Champions League final, he called him into his office and said: ‘Here’s a letter. I’ll put it in an envelope. Open it after the game’.

“It was literally the result of the final against Bayern Munich. Raising the Champions League is every boy’s dream, when they let me touch it, it was a unique moment that I’ll never forget.”

Mourinho’s success at Inter saw them win the first ever Treble in Serie A history, an achievement that still hasn’t been replicated. He’s also found success with Roma, winning the Europa Conference League in his first season at the club.

Inter lifted the Champions League in 2010 after beating Bayern Munich 2-0 in the final, with Diego Milito scoring both goals.
