The Turkish club officially began negotiations for the Dutchman by releasing a statement on their website on Tuesday.
His agent has refused to comment on the Galatasaray option, but his wife Yolanthe Cabau said on Twitter that she “loved Istanbul.”
According to Turkish newspaper Milliyet, Sneijder is in talks for a contract worth €6m plus performance-related bonuses that would take it up to €6.5m.
This is the same wage deal he currently has at Inter and the reason the Italians are eager to sell. Sneijder has not played for the club since November, when he was asked to reduce his wages by signing a contract extension for the same overall sum.
However, there is some debate over the transfer fee offered to Inter, as initial reports suggest Galatasaray were able to meet the €10m asking price.
Turkish media instead claim the bid is between €3.2m and €8m.
At the same time, Italian newspapers maintain Sneijder is hoping for a bigger club to step forward from the Premier League after months of interest from Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal.
Only QPR have so far been mentioned as making an offer, but his agent shot down that option.
