Wesley Sneijder’s father is “glad Inter finally made the situation public” after the player was dropped until he accepts a pay cut.
Currently the top earner at San Siro with €6m per season, Nerazzurri director Marco Branca confirmed he will not play again until the contract has been adjusted.
“We are glad Inter finally made the situation public,” Sneijder’s father told Voetbal International.
“We are not forcing the situation forward. These negotiations have been going on for weeks.
“Now we know what Inter’s real position is and can find a solution. Wesley still has two years left on his contract and we hope to resolve everything as soon as possible.”
The proposal from Inter would be to sign a longer contract on the same total wage bill, so spreading the money more thinly.
It is likely Sneijder will prefer a January move to the likes of Anzhi, Manchester City or Manchester United, who already made offers last season.
Coach Andrea Stramaccioni has for some time made it clear Sneijder does not fit into his current tactical approach for Inter.
