The former youth team boss was handed control of the side in March after the departure of Claudio Ranieri. He was confirmed in the role over the summer.

“The club are constructing for a great new future and Stramaccioni is ideal,” the Holland international is quoted as saying.

“He has some great ideas and is able to transmit his enthusiasm to the side. He’s the best we could have got after Jose Mourinho.”

The latter was the reason why Sneijder accepted a €15m move from Real Madrid to the San Siro in the summer of 2009. He won the Treble under the Portuguese tactician.

Stramaccioni is still just 36, younger than Inter captain Javier Zanetti. Inter finished sixth last term after going through three tacticians.
