Roma defender Chris Smalling reportedly travelled to London yesterday for a consultation with a specialist, as he still struggles with a flexor injury.

The former England international’s time with the Giallorossi has been halted by injuries and the former Manchester United centre-back has only played 20 times in Serie A since moving on a permanent deal to Rome in the summer of 2020.

Smalling spent one year on loan with the Giallorossi in 2019-20 and impressed during his 30 league games, scoring three times in the process.

He did enough to secure a permanent move to the Italian capital, but has endured a frustrating time since.

The 31-year-old has now been out for a month and is not expected back until late November, after the international break, and the initial recovery time has been stretched.

The medical staff at Roma have preferred to be patient and restore the right muscular balance, meaning he has missed six of the 11 Serie A games this term.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports he has travelled to a specialist in London to get some answers, as Roma prepare to host Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Europa Conference League tonight.
