Smalling played 37 competitive games for the Giallorossi in 2019-20 but his season ended prematurely, as he didn’t get to participate in the last 16 against Sevilla.

During his first season in the Italian capital, Smalling contributed three goals and two assists, helping the side keep six clean sheets in Serie A.
