Roma centre-back Chris Smalling has been out for over a month and hopes to be back in action against Genoa after the international break.

The English defender suffered an injury in the home game against Empoli on October 3 and has been out with a flexor injury for over a month.

Smalling travelled to London for consultation

The former Manchester United centre-back travelled to London for a consultation with a specialist and is optimistic.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the 31-year-old, who has only played 20 Serie A games since moving on a permanent deal to the Italian capital in 2020, aims to be back in action against Genoa this month.

Roma are going through a difficult period, with only one win in the last seven games across all competitions.

Smalling’s return would be a boost a head of an important run of games, starting with the trip to Genoa.

The Giallorossi then face Zorya in the Europa Conference League four days later, before hosting Torino in Serie A.
