Arne Slot is unsure Federico Chiesa will be available for selection for a weekend Premier League trip to Crystal Palance.

Chiesa missed Wednesday’s Champions League game over Bologna due to a minor injury, and it is still unclear whether he can recover in time for Liverpool’s next Premier League game at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

“He [Chiesa] came in today to see if he could train, and if he can, I still have a decision to make because we can only select 20 [players], and he hasn’t trained for a few days,” Slot said at a press conference on Friday.

“But first of all, we have to wait and see if he can even train – and if he can then it’s our decision if we bring him to the game or not.”

Chiesa joined Liverpool in a €14m deal from Juventus in the summer.

He had been training separately from the first team at Juventus as he was not part of Thiago Motta’s plans.

The Italy international made his Liverpool debut at San Siro against Milan, seeing the Reds secure an away 3-1 victory in September.

Chiesa has one assist in three Liverpool appearances, but he hasn’t yet started for his new club.

Italy coach Luciano Spalletti did not call him up for international games in September, and it remains to be seen if he’ll be part of the Azzurri squad for upcoming matches against Belgium and Israel.
