Sky Sport Italia also now confirm Ralf Rangnick has agreed to take over as Milan’s new ‘manager’ – a joint coach and director of sport role that pushes Paolo Maldini out.

There had already been other sources including Tuttosport and SportMediaset, so now Sky add that the meeting between Rangnick and CEO Ivan Gazidis took place in Austria over the last few days.

The conversation was above all about the precise role he will be taking, as Rangnick has been both a coach and director at RB Leipzig, where he is currently their chief of strategy and development.

According to various reports in Italy, Rangnick will have a Premier League style ‘manager’ position, putting him in charge of the squad and their transfer strategy.

It means a push towards the exit for current directors Maldini and Frederic Massara, leaving Gazidis and Rangnick to control every aspect of the AC Milan experience.

However, we are now certain that Paul Mitchell won’t be joining Milan and this particular ambitious project, as today he was formally announced as the new director of sport at AS Monaco.
