According to Sky Sport Italia, Andrea Pirlo is currently signing his contract as new Sampdoria coach.

Transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio says the 2006 Italy World Cup winner is signing the paperwork ahead of an official statement confirming his appointment as the new Blucerchiati boss for 2023-24.

Samp will play in Serie B next season after relegation from Serie A in 2022-23.

According to the report, Pirlo will sign a two-year deal with an option for a third season.

Fabio Grosso was Sampdoria’s primary target but did not reach an agreement with new Samp owner Andrea Radrizzani.

The Italian businessman who has recently acquired Samp, saving the club from bankruptcy, is said to have met Pirlo three times. Di Marzio claims that Pirlo’s enthusiasm and experience ultimately convinced Radrizzani.

The ex-Juventus and Milan star spent the last season in Turkey where he took charge of Karagümrük. Pirlo returns to Italy after a one-year spell at Juventus in 2020-21 when he won a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa.
