Sky: Atalanta coach Gasperini blocks Zapata’s Roma transfer

According to Sky Sport Italia, Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has blocked Duvan Zapata’s move to Roma.

The Giallorossi were in talks with La Dea and their striker over a potential deal worth €10m, including add-ons.

Gasperini opened the door for Zapata’s Roma transfer following a 2-0 win over Sassuolo on Sunday but seems to have changed his mind now.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Italian tactician no longer wants to part ways with the Colombian forward, meaning the potential deal with Roma is off.

Zapata started against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday following El-Bilal Touré’s injury.

The latter became Atalanta’s most expensive signing ever earlier this summer but sustained a severe tendon injury in a friendly against Juventus two weeks ago and could be forced to undergo surgery, remaining out of action for several months.

Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku is said to be on Roma’s radars too, but according to multiple sources, including Sky Sport Italia, the Belgian can only join the Giallorossi on loan and there are currently no negotiations between the two clubs.
