Atalanta President Antonio Percassi claims Martin Skrtel was sad “because his wife didn’t want to come here” and “hopes” Luis Muriel faces Dinamo Zagreb.
Skrtel left Atalanta earlier in the month without playing an official game for Atalanta, seemingly because he did not fit into Gian Piero Gasperini’s back-three system.
However, Percassi has now given a different version of events.
“He was a good lad, but he was sad,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“You saw him suffering because his wife didn’t want to come here.”
Muriel is a doubt for the Dea’s Champions League debut against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday after twisting his knee at the weekend…
“I hope to see him in Zagreb, but the important thing is that his knee isn’t carrying an injury. We were worried at Marassi… He’s a Champions League striker.
“We immediately put up a wall to the clubs that asked us for Ilicic and Papu. We didn’t enter into any negotiations, we wanted to keep them.
“It was a big signal from us, instead of making money out of them.”
