Skriniar: ‘Inter disappointed by Shakhtar draw’

Milan Skriniar insists Inter are ‘disappointed’ with a 0-0 draw at Shakhtar Donetsk, as they defended stoutly and lacked something in their finishing.

The Nerazzurri were held to a 0-0 draw in Kiev, with Shakhtar Donetsk controlling the ball for long periods, but Inter ultimately with the best scoring opportunities.

This included Nicolò Barella hitting the bar and two late saves on Joaquin Correa and Stefan de Vrij, but Milan Skriniar also made a stunning interception to stop Pedrinho tapping in.

“We are disappointed, because we wanted to win and we went close to achieving it,” Skriniar told Sky Sport Italia.

“We also have to say that Shakhtar had their chances too, but we really wanted to leave here with three points.

“We’re pleased to keep a clean sheet, but could’ve done something more going forward. Shakhtar are a good team, they keep the ball well a bit like Sassuolo last season.”

Roberto De Zerbi said that this Inter side is stronger than last season’s team under Antonio Conte.

“We have a winning mentality now and that showed today. We keep our heads held high. The group is still wide open.”
