Milan Skriniar’s agent confirms he rejected the Inter contract in December, while they are ‘in talks with PSG and other clubs outside of Italy. It was Inter’s decision to put him on the transfer market.’

The defender was the subject of several huge bids over the summer, including one reaching €60m from Paris Saint-Germain, but the Nerazzurri always turned them down.

That was when a new contract had seemingly been agreed, but that changed and last week he rejected the final €6m per season proposal to remain at San Siro.

He will be a free agent in July and is now able to negotiate with other clubs for a future move.

“The truth is that the decision to put Milan Skriniar on the transfer market was taken by Inter over the summer, not by the player,” agent Roberto Sistici told Telenord.

“It was a decision from the club that led to negotiations between Inter and PSG, which obviously we were informed of. At a certain stage, the negotiations were interrupted and the player accepted without problems, respecting his contract as a true professional.

“In the autumn, we replied to all the requests made by the club, and after a series of preliminary meetings, we presented our economic request. After that, in November 2022, Inter presented their proposal. Circa a month later, before Christmas, I told Inter our decision not to accept that proposal.

“I confirmed that decision in January, before the Supercoppa, when I also informed directors Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio that we considered ourselves free to listen to the offers from other clubs.

“It wasn’t even necessary for us to inform them of that, but both myself and the player felt it was the right way to proceed, with professionalism and transparency. I repeat, we never missed any appointment with Inter.”

This means Skriniar and his agent had already informed Inter that they would not sign a new contract even when Marotta continued to tell media he was “optimistic” over a deal.

Agent Sistici was asked if therefore he was in talks with Paris Saint-Germain.

“Yes, but also with other clubs outside of Italy.”

Is there any chance of Skriniar agreeing a new contract with Inter?

“At the moment no, that is not a possibility. Anyone who knows Milan will realise his professionalism and fairness, he will always honour the jersey of the club he is registered with, especially a club that gave him so much.”
