Six young Italian midfielders to look out for

While the Italy national team get to work at Coverciano for the first international break of the season, La Gazzetta dello Sport have highlighted six talented, young midfielders who could be of use to new CT Luciano Spalletti in the near future.

One of them is the U20 World Cup Golden Boot and Golden Ball-winning 20-year-old Cesare Casadei, whose first call-up to the senior side could be just around the corner.

La Gazetta reported earlier in the day that the Chelsea loanee is part of a group of players being closely monitored by Spalletti and could be included in the next national team squad in October.

Casadei is yet to start for Leicetser in the Championship, but has been brought on as a substitute in all three of their most recent league fixtures, netting a 92nd-minute winner against Cardiff on his debut.

Elsewhere, La Gazzetta also points to Giovanni Fabbian, who joined Bologna from Inter this summer following a collapsed part-exchange deal with Udinese for Lazar Samardzic.

In the Rossoblu’s most recent fixture in Serie A, Fabbian popped up with an 89th-minute winner against Cagliari, helping to secure the team’s first league win of the season.

Inter have the option to buy Fabbian back for a fee of €15m at a later date, which could be an enticing option if the youngster continues to perform at the levels he has shown thus far.

Cagliari’s Matteo Prati has also been tipped as one-to-watch, having joined Claudio Ranieri’s side in a deal worth €5m plus bonuses from SPAL this summer. He, too, was part of the U20 squad that reached the final of the World Cup this summer.

Cher Ndour, who recently made his senior debut for Paris Saint-Germain with a cameo appearance against Lyon last weekend, is also an impressive prospect. Still only 19, Ndour has already gained experience in Italy, Portugal and France.

Recent Sassuolo acquisition Luca Lipani is also on Gazzetta’s list, as is Niccolo Pisilli of Roma.
