The 2030 World Cup will be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with three games in South America, so it will be held over three different continents.

It also means that six different teams will automatically qualify as host nations.

The latest plan from FIFA to expand the tournament is a way of marking the 100th anniversary of the first ever edition.

That was hosted and indeed won by Uruguay in 1930, so the opening fixture will be held in Montevideo.

Another match is to be played in Argentina and a third in Paraguay, before the entire tournament shifts over to Morocco, Spain and Portugal for the rest of the tournament.

Despite that calendar, the opening ceremony is going to be in one of the regular host nations, although which one has not been decided yet.

Morocco had originally proposed to host the 2030 World Cup by itself, having also failed five times before, but finally becomes the first nation in North Africa to stage the competition.
