Genoa goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu has been approached by Napoli, confirms his agent, but so far talks are at an early stage.

The veteran had an option to extend his contract with Genoa for another year, but will not remain after their relegation to Serie B.

This makes him a free agent and he has been linked with Napoli, amongst other clubs.

“We know that Napoli is one of the options on the table and we of course are open to such a prestigious club, but so far no official offers have been made,” his agent told Radio Punto Nuovo.

“We did not go beyond a simple approach to ask for information.”

David Ospina is due to leave Napoli when his contract expires on June 30, while there is not a great deal of confidence that Alex Meret can take over after a series of errors.

Sirigu is 35 years old and spent much of his career in France with Paris Saint-Germain from 2011 to 2016.

There was also a four-year experience at Torino before moving to Genoa for free last summer and he also has 28 senior caps for Italy under his belt.
