Ivan Juric believes Giovanni Simeone has what it takes to “continue Leonardo Pavoletti’s legacy and be Genoa’s centre forward for the future”.
Simeone is the son of Atletico Madrid boss and former Inter midfielder Diego, and Juric has high hopes for the young striker following his arrival from River Plate last month, while warning fellow new boy Lucas Ocampos “he must work”.

“He plays the same role as [Raffaele] Palladino did for my Crotone, and I’m trying to convey to him what Raffaele taught me [in the role] last year.
“[Simeone] is very interesting. He only joined us recently but wants to learn.
“In the future, he’ll continue Pavo’s legacy and become Genoa’s centre forward.
“Pavoletti’s a great striker in the box. He’s devastating there, and he’s a wonderful guy.
“Never in my career have I seen someone so cheerful, always smiling and so attached to the shirt.
“He rejected more lucrative contracts to stay with us. There are very few players like him.”
