Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has dubbed claims Giovanni Simeone will move to Milan in the summer as 'pure invention'.

The Grifone bought out the remainder of the 21-year-old’s River Plate contract yesterday, and reportedly rejected a €20m offer from Villarreal.

This prompted reports that Milan had formulated an agreement for his sale with Genoa, claims that were fiercely denied by Preziosi.

"Simeone? We paid €2.1 million because before we only had 35%," the owner told a Press conference.  "It was an operation that had to be done so that we freed up all constraints.

"Will he go to Milan in the future? Galliani knows that he can not spend €30m, so this is in fact pure invention.

"Giovanni has the same grit of his father, he’s a guy of great will and ambition."

The Genoa chief then went on to comment on the sale of Leonardo Pavoletti to Napoli and Juve's purchase of Tomas Rincon.

"Both players were not the same during the past year," Preziosi continued.

"Pavoletti struggles to find room even now, and Rincon probably did not want to renew and wanted a change of scenery.

"I think I did well with the market and there are some areas, such as in midfield, where we are plentiful."

Genoa also brought in Adel Taarabt from Benfica and highly-rated youngster Leonardo Morosini from Brescia.

"[Adel] Taarabt must understand that he has a great career ahead of him, he can do good things with natural ability.

"We will not give up [Leonardo] Morosini because we believe in him."
