The Bianconeri veteran was in goal when the Rossoblu secured a 2-0 win against the champions at the Sardegna Arena.
Debutant Luca Gagliano scored the opener for Casteddu and Simeone added the second and really enjoyed scoring against the World Cup winner.
“I respect him very much, he’s a great and beautiful person,” Simeone told Tuttomercatoweb. “I’m happy to play against him and it gives me great joy and pride to score goals when I do.”
Cagliari returned with two wins from their three first games after the resumption in June, but a winless run of eight games followed.
“There’s still one game left against Milan. We have had a season with ups and downs. We must adjust, the team are there, and we can do great things.”
Simeone has scored 12 goals in 36 League games this term and the centre-forward has revealed he asked his father, the Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, for advice.
“I’m more relaxed now, even the quarantine has allowed us to improve,” he added. “I always try to do my best. I want to learn.
“I asked my father for advice, because I highly respect Diego Costa and [Alvaro] Morata.”
