The Italian winger has joined Il Diavolo after an unsuccessful six months in La Liga with Los Colchoneros.

Speaking at the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala where he is shortlisted for the 2014 Coach award, Simeone has considered Cerci’s return to Italy.

“He was not in the best condition when he arrived,” Simeone said in an interview with Mediaset.

“He is a very intelligent lad, and he behaved like a professional with us.

“He came into a team was already well organised, but the best thing that could happen to him is to return into a great team like Milan.

“Now he'll be able to bring out everything that's best in him.”

The Argentine also discussed midfielder Mario Suarez, who has been linked to Inter.

“Mario is an important player. He and Tiago [Mendes] are both important and we don't intend on letting them go.

“Our response to a substantial offer is down to [directors José Luis] Caminero and [Andrea] Berta.”

The Coach also had some positive statements about Italian football in general.

“[Italian football] is going through a difficult moment but it will certainly return to its former glories. I learnt a lot in Italy and I have a great respect for Italian football.”
