Giovanni Simeone has ‘learned so much’ at Cagliari and is dreaming of European qualification, especially as Joao Pedro ‘has found his ideal role.’
The Argentine has five goals in seven Serie A games so far this season after making his move from Fiorentina permanent for a total €15m.
“I want at least 12 goals this season. It’s difficult to score here, but I want to improve my figures,” Cholito told Radio Deejay.

“Our style of football changed with the characteristics of the players. Leonardo Pavoletti was strong in the air, so we had a lot of crosses, while Joao Pedro has really found his niche between the lines. It’s his ideal role.
“I always studied great strikers carefully, to see their movements in the penalty area. I started with Gabriel Batistuta, but I studied Ronaldo too.”
He can’t quite ask his father for advice, as Diego Simeone was a rugged midfielder more than a centre-forward.
“We don’t talk about football or tactics, as that would be like going over the work done by Eusebio Di Francesco at Cagliari, so we keep these things separate.
“I am learning so much in Serie A and the objective of any player is to get stronger and keep developing.”
Simeone is certainly more prolific at Cagliari than he was at Fiorentina, when he struggled for long periods without goals.
“A striker does lose confidence when he doesn’t find the net, so I was younger then and it was difficult to get through that year. On the other hand, the experience helped me to grow and realise scoring goals shouldn’t be an obsession.
“Cagliari are a young squad and we’d love to get into Europe, but I wouldn’t call that an objective, more of a dream.”
