Miguel Angel Gil Marin has revealed that Atletico Madrid did not open talks for Fernando Torres, and Coach Diego Simeone did not request his arrival.

The Spain international was linked with a return to his boyhood club, but ultimately joined Milan on a two-year loan deal from Chelsea.

Los Colchoneros’ CEO was asked this week, though, if Torres could have realistically returned to Atleti this summer.

The Spain international was linked with a return to his boyhood club, but ultimately joined Milan on a two-year loan deal from Chelsea.

Los Colchoneros’ CEO was asked this week, though, if Torres could have realistically returned to Atleti this summer.

“It’s not true that he could have returned,” Gil Marin has told Cadena Ser.

“It is true that his return was proposed, but negotiations were never opened.

“Did Simeone ask for him? To me, at least, Simeone did not request him.”

Torres was once one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, but was deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea this summer after scoring only 20 Premier League goals in his three-and-a-half seasons at the club following a €63m move from Liverpool.
