Giovanni Simeone said Cagliari don’t have time to get ‘depressed’ after the 4-1 loss to Napoli and looks forward to having Radja Nainggolan back.
The Argentine forward spoke to Sky Sport Italia after the heavy defeat to the Partenopei on Sunday and claimed the Rossoblu knew they would ‘struggle’ if they didn’t play a ‘perfect’ match.
“We had a strong team in front of us, with great quality in all departments,” he said. “It wasn’t the performance we wanted, we tried to press hard right away, but they put their characteristics on the pitch and were in charge.
“When you face such good opponents, you will struggle if you aren’t perfect. We’re sorry and I think the only recipe right now is to work and find our what we are missing.”
Joao Pedro pulled one back after 60 minutes, to make it 1-2 at the Sardegna Arena, but the home side weren’t able to mount a comeback against the Azzurri.
Simeone stressed the Sardinians can’t look at the table and must unite to come out of a tough period, as Sunday’s defeat stretched their winless run in Serie A to eight games.
“We have to recover our path quickly, we have been trying for a long time, but things are not going the right way,” he added.
“We can’t gent depressed, it’s a mental issue and we must come out of it working as a team and thinking about what’s wrong.
“You have to be compact, mean, decisive and attentive to every detail. This is not the time to look at the standings.
“It’s important to stand united and analyse the mistakes, knowing that we have the qualities to do much better.”
Nainggolan, who spent last season at the Casteddu, has signed a loan deal until June 2021 and returns from Inter.
“Radja is a great player and an element of personality,” Simeone said. “He will give us a lot on the pitch and experience in the dressing room.”
